ravenously, gone, still is derived from a larger body of work that photographer Madeline Cass began in 2023. Each composition begins with a found image which is then printed on canvas. Cass hand-paints the printed canvas with acrylics and watercolors, exploring the phenomenological aspects of color and material within the realm of her expanded photography practice. The series is influenced by her research into the effects of climate change on wildfires and the prescribed burns used to control them. Through interacting with the natural environment in unexpected ways and inviting others to join, she offers alternative pathways into our collective ecological awareness.
